Regional Eye Centre Facilities

The Eye Clinic

The Eye Clinic, located on the main floor of the Active Treatment Centre (ATC) at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (10240 Kingsway Avenue, Room 1111), provides assessment, treatment, managment and teaching services to patients. Over 41,000 patient visits, tests, laser procedures and minor surgeries are recorded each year. Special facilities for glaucoma and visual field testing are located next to Patient Care Unit 22, on the second floor.

The eye clinic is open from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday. All clinic appointments are by physician/optometrist referral only. For urgent eye care outside clinic hours, patients should report to the emergency department at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Operating Rooms

There are four operating rooms dedicated to eye care on the basement level of the ATC. These rooms provide full services for both scheduled and emergency ophthalmology surgery and immediated post-anesthesia recovery. Over 10,500 surgeries are done each year.

Surgeries are booked from 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday to Friday.

Patient Care Unit 22

Located on the second floor of the ATC, this unit provides patients with eye care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The unit is available for inpatients, day surgery patients who receive general anesthesia, or patients who require additional postoperative care.

Pediatric Ophthalmology Clinics

Under the auspices of the Stollery Children's Hospital, Pediatric Ophthalmology patients are seen in the Walter C Mackenzie Health Sciences Centre (WMC) at the University of Alberta - Unit 2F. For appointments please call 780.407.6417.
